I am a teacher by trade. I also spend most Saturdays coaching Special Olympic Bowling. I have an awesome son who is eight and a very patient and supportive husband who has allowed autism to take over our basement. I learned to sew by watching my grandma and mom. They were always constructing something fabulous out of nothing. I am glad I inherited the eye to do the same.
Several years ago, it was suggested to me that I try making weighted vests and blankets for individuals with autism. I thought to myself, "Yeah, like there is a need for that." Boy, was I wrong! Since then I have worked hard to find, create, or find someone to manufacture for me all sorts of autism awareness items. I strive to have unique and affordable awareness items to show your love and pride.
Through a partnership with my best friend, Lisa, students in her Severe and Profound Classroom are able to learn valuable job skills while packaging some products for Hugs N Stitches using hand-over-hand assistance. Additionally, we donate money throughout the year to various autism charities.
